Information about the artwork: Genesis Coin is the first Bitcoin artwork by Sequin Kay. This piece marks not only the launch of a new collection but a turning point in her creative journey. It represents the alchemy of value: how something digital and intangible like Bitcoin, can be reimagined into a physical, luxurious, and luminous object of beauty. This piece is about the evolution of worth: from code to crystal, from concept to gold. It reflects our collective shift into a new paradigm, where art, currency, and identity intersect. In using crystals and gold leaf, the artist merges ancient symbols of wealth with future-facing technology, bridging past and future through form, light, and craft.
Information about the artist: Sequin Kay grew up in South London, a vibrant multicultural hub that shaped her creativity and artistic voice. She studied Fine Art and Painting at Camberwell College of Arts (UAL) and Goldsmiths, University of London, before developing her signature reflective and embellished style across studios in London, Malta, Ibiza, Switzerland, and India.
Her work has been collected internationally. Sequin has led creative workshops at Soho House, Shoreditch House, and The Idler Academy, as well as community programs in Beirut, Goa, and Malta. She continues to design bespoke textile and Swarovski crystal artworks for private clients while developing new collections in Ibiza and London.
Of Moroccan and Irish descent, Sequin draws on themes of adornment, Egyptology, geometry, transpersonal psychology, and psychedelia. Her works layer research, ritual, and meditation, exploring light, reflection, and transformation. Reflective materials hold symbolic meaning in her practice, representing the divine and mirroring the inner world that guides her process.
Collaboration is central to her journey, including projects with geometer Stephen Meakin, architecture studio Hylemo, and audiovisual artist Paul Mortimore.
“The act of making art calms the chaos which shakes my soul. At a time of great planetary change, I humbly work piece by piece to create a more illuminated world. Art has the power to transform, inspire, and awaken us all to a more beautiful, wondrous way of being.” – Sequin Kay, 2024
